Areas
of Work
All
members of chambers are specialist advocates. As well as representing
clients in Court, in arbitrations, at mediations and before
tribunals, they undertake advisory work, settle pleadings and
draft contracts and other documentation to meet the needs of
their clients. They are used to working as part of a team with
other professionals.
Instructions
Barristers
are usually instructed by a solicitor or other professional
client and do not generally accept instructions directly from
a lay client. They may however be instructed by an overseas
lawyer and in certain circumstances by an overseas lay client.
For further details on instructing members of chambers in overseas
cases, click here.
Arbitration
Members of chambers regularly act as either advocates or arbitrators
in domestic and international arbitrations whether ad hoc or
under ICC, LCIA, ICSID, AAA, ACI or other rules. Members have
particular expertise in the application of foreign law in private
international disputes. For further details click
here.
Mediations
A
number of members of chambers are accredited mediators with
experience of acting as mediators. ACI
(A Commercial Initiative for Dispute Resolution), founded by
Elizabeth Birch, provides an experienced panel of commercial
lawyer arbitrators and mediators from both sides of the profession,
including members of 3 Verulam Buildings.
Non
Contentious Work
Members
of 3 Verulam Buildings regularly accept instructions which do
not involve representation in litigation; examples of such work
are the drafting of standard, or individual, contract terms
and conditions, advice upon particular points of law or transactions,
and providing expert evidence on questions of English law for
the purposes of foreign proceedings.
Specialist
Areas
Members
of chambers deal with a wide range of commercial work. The main
areas of specialisation are listed on the left. In addition,
some members of chambers are recognised specialists in other
areas of law.
Seminars and Talks
Members
of chambers also offer talks and seminars in their areas of
expertise, click here for more information.
