Recruitment
During
the last decade we have adopted and carried out a policy of
expansion. We select three or four funded pupils each year
from whom we intend to recruit new tenants. It remains our
intention to recruit at least one new tenant every year from
pupils in Chambers. In practice, we normally recruit two tenants
per year, and we have recruited three in exceptional years.
We are committed to recruiting new tenants from among our
funded pupils whenever we can.
During
the first six months of pupillage, each candidate is assessed
from time to time by the pupillage committee in consultation
with his or her current and past pupil supervisors. At the
end of the first six months, each pupil will be told in confidence
whether it would be in the pupil's best interests to take
up a second pupillage elsewhere. Some pupils may decide to
remain for the rest of the year even if they are not candidates
for a tenancy. The Members of Chambers make every effort to
place ex-pupils in other sets when necessary: in recent years
we have been able to find satisfactory places for most of
our former pupils who wished to go into practice.
