Life
as a New Tenant in 3 Verulam Buildings
A
new tenant entering practice at 3 Verulam Buildings is likely
to have had some experience of small cases during the second
six months of pupillage. The most important task in the early
days of practice is to acquire experience of advocacy. For
the new tenant, there is variety of work for the beginner,
including winding up petitions in the Companies Court, contractual
disputes in the County Court, and interim applications in
the High Court, such as applications for summary judgment.
New Members of Chambers may also be engaged to assist more
senior juniors and leaders in heavy litigation.
It
is difficult to predict the earnings that a new tenant may
achieve. Much depends on the ability and application of the
individual. We estimate that in the first year of practice,
a new tenant at 3 Verulam Buildings can expect gross earnings
of over £50,000 p.a. Sometimes earnings can be considerably
higher. Thereafter earnings should increase substantially.
All Members of Chambers pay contributions to Chambers
expenses based on receipts, with some adjustments for junior
members.
