Professor Nelson Enonchong

Practice

Nelson is the Barber Professor of Law at the University of Birmingham. He has a wide commercial practice, including banking and finance, sale of goods and supply of services and all contractual matters. He also has expertise in conflict of laws/private international law and provides advice in cases with an international element.

Commercial

  • Expertise in international commercial contracts, international commercial arbitration and state contracts. Particular expertise in claims for restitution of the proceeds of fraud or funds transferred under illegal transactions. Particular expertise also in claims arising out of contracts procured by duress, undue influence or unconscionable dealing.

  • Has acted as Counsel in various contract and commercial matters.
Banking and Related
  • Expertise in banking includes payment instructions and the transfer of funds, security for advances. Particular expertise on documentary credits and performance bonds.


  • Has appeared as Counsel in various hearings related to bank charges, mortgages and possessions.

Conflict of Laws/Private International Law

  • Expertise in jurisdiction of the English courts, the choice of law rules in commercial transactions and the enforcement of foreign judgments and arbitral awards in England.


  • Provisional measures in support of foreign proceedings and anti-suit injunctions (restraining foreign proceedings).

Sale of Goods and Supply of Services

  • Expertise in international and domestic sale of goods and guarantee claims
