Mini-pupillage
Although not a pre-requisite to applying for pupillage to chambers, mini-pupillage is a good chance for you and us to get a good look at each other. Accordingly, our mini-pupillages are assessed and are an important part of our pupillage selection procedure.
Mini-pupillages will range from one day to three days, and are essentially a short period of simulated pupillage (i.e. sitting with, helping and going to court with a barrister).
Ideally, candidates for mini-pupillage should apply during the second and third years of a law degree, or the first six months of the GDL or Master's degree, as applicable. In our experience, students on the GDL find it beneficial to undertake their mini-pupillage after they have completed their first term and, wherever it is possible for the candidate and Chambers, we will endeavour to make offers with this in mind. We do sometimes offer (often one- or two-day) mini-pupillages at an earlier stage to strong law or non-law students.
Applicants for mini-pupillage should have, or expect to obtain, the academic qualifications required for full pupillage (as a minimum, an upper second in an honours subject, not necessarily in law).
Applications are by way of a CV (which should include a full breakdown of all university examination results to date) and covering letter and should be sent to minipupillage@3vb.com.
