Theodor has a general commercial practice, in line with Chambers' profile and has experience of a broad range of general commercial work, including banking and financial services law, company & partnership, insolvency, professional negligence, insurance, civil fraud, arbitration and conflict of laws.
Theodor has particular experience of financial services disputes, having spent a year on secondment at the FSA. Theodor has since been regularly instructed to advise the FSA on regulatory and public law issues, through which he has obtained detailed knowledge of FSMA and the Handbook, and of the regulatory reform agenda. Theodor also acted in several financial services disputes, including for the FSA in the successful defence of the PPI judicial review (R (British Bankers' Association) v Financial Services Authority & Financial Ombudsman Service [2011] EWHC 999 (Admin)).
Theodor has also been recently instructed as junior counsel in more general commercial and international litigation, including assisting on preparation for the hearing of an insurance dispute on behalf of Aviva in the TCC (John Youngs Insurance Services Ltd v Aviva Insurance Service UK Ltd [2011] EWHC 1515) (instructed by Berrymans Lace Mawer LLP) and on a trust dispute before the Supreme Court of the Bahamas (Hayward & Ors v Striker Trustees Ltd & Ors (No.01137 of 2010)) (instructed by Reed Smith LLP). During and since pupillage (with David Quest, Nicholas Craig, Matthew Hardwick and John Odgers QC) he has also assisted more senior members of Chambers on various general commercial and arbitration disputes.
Theodor is frequently instructed to produce written and advisory work, and to appear as a sole advocate at interim hearings, trials and appeals, in the High Court and county courts, on a variety of general commercial matters. Theodor also has experience of company law and insolvency hearings in the Companies Court.
